Job Title: Administrative Assistant for Jacob Kupin, Metro Nashville Councilmember, District 19

Overview: This high-visibility role represents Councilmember Kupin in the community, shaping policy, building relationships, and ensuring District 19 constituent priorities are heard. The role includes attending community meetings, assisting with drafting legislation, delivering remarks on the Councilmember’s behalf, and maintaining community relationships. You will work alongside the Legislative Assistant to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. About Councilmember Jacob Kupin: Jacob Kupin is the Metro Nashville Council Member for District 19, encompassing the downtown core, north neighborhoods, East Bank, and Midtown. This is a time-intensive district requiring a deep bandwidth to address constituent concerns, development needs, stakeholder challenges, and more. As a busy professional (he is also a realtor and mortgage lender), Councilmember Kupin is seeking a reliable and efficient assistant to support him in managing various Council responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for constituent concerns— often working independently to identify solutions and ensure follow-through
  • Represent the Councilmember at public meetings, events, and stakeholder conversations
  • Deliver prepared remarks and speak on behalf of the office as needed
  • Meet with constituents and community leaders
  • Conduct research to support policy development and constituent response
  • Monitor District and city events, and send relevant briefings to the Councilmember
  • Stay informed on city policy issues (zoning, development, public safety, etc.)

Required Qualifications (non-negotiable, must have on Day 1):

  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • Ability to build relationships and operate independently
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Gmail, etc.)
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment, meaning you can manage multiple priorities, and no two days are the same
  • Knowledge of local government processes and Nashville’s civic landscape
  • Receptive to constructive feedback and uses it to continually improve performance and outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, or related field
  • Experience in constituent services, administrative coordination, or similar roles
  • Familiarity with Nashville’s neighborhoods, government structure, and community organizations
  • Social media management or content creation skills
  • Interest in local politics or public service

Employment Type: Independent Contractor (Approximately 40 hours/week, with work generally falling within standard business hours (9 AM–5 PM), flexibility is expected, and evening or weekend availability will be required based on evolving needs.

Location: Hybrid, based in Nashville (computer and work from home 50%)
